CONFERENCE

SUPERFAB is the summer school of SUPSI - Department of Environment constructions and design - on digital fabrication and computational design applied to the domain of industrial robotics for design and architecture. The program proposes 3 parallel workshops, 1 conference on the fundamental competences of digital fabrication, computational design and sustainability in the sector of design, construction and architecture.

3 PARALLEL WORKSHOPS

The program is structured into three different workshops.

– Sustainable Programmed Fabrication (5 days, Mon 18th- Fri 22nd July)

This workshop introduces the techniques for controlling an industrial robotic arm through the use of Grasshopper. The goal is to create artifacts through reused and recycled materials. Tutor: Gianluca Pugliese, 3D printing for big scale and robotics for sustainable design, Low-poly.cc, Marco Lurati, SUPSI Institute Design-FabLab

Making Creative Machines (5 days, Mon 18th - Fri 22nd July)

This workshop proposes a collaborative and experimental session where participants work together on the design and the realization of prototypes of robotic machines for creative and custom applications. The session is based on learning by doing and do it together. Tutor: Massimo Banzi, co-founder of Arduino.cc

– **Plan and program robotics processes in architecture research with COMPAS (2 days, Mon 18th-Tue19th July).

The session promoted by MAS ETH in Architecture and Digital Fabrication (MAS ETH DFAB) introduces the use of COMPAS, the open source framework based on** Python. Tutor: Gonzalo Casas, software engineer ETH Zurich DFab.

REGISTRATIONS

The summer school is free of charge for the students and the collaborators of SUPSI. The places are limited. Applications will be evaluated on the motivation (and the portfolio). The applications from female students and practitioners will be favored.

–SUPSI students and collaborators; students from Academy of Architecture USI.

The summer school is free of charge for SUPSI students and collaborators and the students from Academy of Architecture USI. The places are limited and a selection will be carried out on the basis of motivation and affiliation to the BA and MA programs.

– Professionals and other students Few places are available for external professionals and students upon the evaluation of their motivation. A registration fee of 300.00 CHF is applied to cover the costs of materials and machines.

– Conferences, fablab tour and final presentation. The conferences and the public presentations are free of charge and open to external auditors and visitors. Registrations via the official form are mandatory.
